Tragic Discovery of Missing German Hiker in Crete

The search for a missing 20-year-old man from Heidelberg, Germany, has ended in tragedy. His body was located by mountain climbers in the challenging terrain of the Gigilos mountain region, near the infamous Samaria Gorge.

Previously, the young man had communicated with his sister, assuring her that he was fine. Despite extensive efforts from rescue teams, search dogs, and local volunteers, the search had proved futile for nearly a month due to harsh weather conditions, including fog, snow, and rain.

The area is known for its treacherous paths, and access is typically restricted during winter months to prevent accidents. The remains will undergo forensic examination in Chania, with costs covered by donations from the family.
