Coalition's Mixed Approaches in Housing and Transport

The coalition negotiations between Union and SPD have achieved progress on addressing Germany's housing crisis, with plans for a 'housing construction turbo' and a focus on social housing. They aim to extend the rent cap while working on regulatory reforms.

The transportation sector sees both agreement and contention. Investments in road and rail are planned, but a proposed autobahn speed limit of 130 km/h remains contentious, with SPD supporting it and the Union opposing.

Additionally, the coalition plans to reform Deutsche Bahn without breaking it up, ensuring its infrastructure segment, InfraGo, is better managed. Meanwhile, the aviation sector will see a rollback of tax increases.

The nationwide public transport ticket will continue, with a gradual price increase from 2027. Despite significant resources, the coalition is criticized for relying on outdated approaches, potentially hindering progress in transport innovation.
