Germany Launches Digital Portal for Passenger Claims

The German Ministry of Justice has introduced a new online portal to facilitate passenger claims for flight delays and cancellations. This platform allows travelers to check their eligibility for compensation and file claims digitally.

Users can access a pre-check feature to determine potential compensation amounts, which can reach up to 600 euros depending on the travel distance. If disputes with airlines remain unresolved, passengers can submit their claims online to seven participating courts near major airports.

To use the service, users must create an account on the 'Mein Justizpostfach' portal, requiring an online ID and BundID. This initiative is part of a broader effort to digitize the justice system, enhancing efficiency and accessibility.

The portal aims to streamline the claims process and has already seen significant interest, with over 131,000 claims filed in a recent year. This move is seen as a significant step towards a more digital and accessible legal system.
