High-Quality Honey Shines in Recent Tests
A recent assessment by Stiftung Warentest revealed that many honey products excelled in taste and purity. Out of 24 honeys tested, 14 received a 'good' rating, including several affordable store brands.
Despite honey's reputation as a frequently adulterated food, the testers found no evidence of contamination or dilution with sugar syrup. The top-rated honey, from Breitsamer, combines German and Danish origins and is priced at 12.98 euros per kilogram.
While some premium-labeled honeys were downgraded due to low invertase levels, others displayed elevated hydroxymethylfurfural content, questioning their natural state. Most products impressed with flavors described as aromatic or spicy, though a few had unusual animalistic notes.
Overall, the report highlights the availability of quality honey at competitive prices.
