CDU Faces Internal Strife Amid Dwindling Poll Numbers

The recent decline in polling numbers has ignited significant unrest within the CDU. Dennis Radtke, head of the party's labor wing, expressed his concerns in 'Handelsblatt', highlighting the narrowing gap between the CDU and the AfD in the polls. Radtke described the situation as 'highly problematic and dangerous', calling for an honest analysis of the party's electoral performance and campaign strategy.

He urged for a clear communication of the party's actions, emphasizing the need for increased defense spending to safeguard future generations. Radtke advocated for support of Friedrich Merz, the party leader and potential chancellor, while stressing the importance of transparency regarding compromises made during coalition negotiations. He warned against giving the impression that the CDU had secured an absolute majority.

Gitta Connemann, chair of the CDU's Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsunion, echoed the call for unity, stating that premature criticisms before concluding coalition talks do not benefit anyone, particularly the nation. The CDU is positioned for a political shift but can only prove its worth in governance.

A recent Forsa poll showed the CDU/CSU at 25% and the AfD at a close 24%. In the Saarland, the SPD has surged ahead of the CDU with 30%, while the AfD has the potential to triple its previous electoral results. With the next state election scheduled for Spring 2027, the political landscape remains dynamic, requiring the CDU to reassess its strategy and cohesion.

Weak Polling Numbers Cause Unrest in CDU

The CDU is worried about its weak polling numbers, which are narrowing the gap to the AfD. Dennis Radtke, head of the CDU's workers' wing, calls for an honest analysis of the Bundestag election results and the campaign strategy to support the party chairman Friedrich Merz. Gitta Connemann, the federal chairwoman of the Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsunion, also calls for unity, as the Union stands for a change in politics and can only prove itself in government.

Survey sees SPD in Saarland ahead of CDU again

A current survey shows that the SPD in Saarland is again ahead of the CDU with 30 percent, which achieves 27 percent. The AfD follows with 17 percent and could triple its value compared to the 2022 election. The Left with 8 percent and the Greens with 6 percent could re-enter the state parliament, while the FDP and BSW would miss the entry. In an election on Sunday, a coalition of SPD and CDU would be the only possible government alliance. The next state election is planned for spring 2027.

Financial Package: Accusing Merz of Electoral Fraud - That's Just a Cliché from the Repertoire of Political Disillusionment

Yes, the CDU leader may have acted according to the principle of 'what do I care about my chatter from yesterday'. But wouldn't it be better if Germany was principled, yet incapable of action?
