Cautious Optimism Amid Political Uncertainty in Germany

Following the agreement on a coalition contract between the CDU/CSU and SPD, many Germans remain skeptical about the potential for real policy changes. A recent ZDF 'Politbarometer' survey reveals that 51% of respondents doubt this coalition will make significant contributions to solving Germany's problems. Economic pessimism is particularly strong, with only 35% expecting improvements under the new government, while 44% foresee little change.

In terms of migration policy, a majority supports stricter measures, yet only 30% believe these will effectively address refugee and asylum issues. Despite promises of a policy shift from CDU leader Friedrich Merz, 64% of the population doubt that such a shift is feasible within the coalition.
