Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stands as one of the few experienced figures in the cabinet, tasked with navigating complex security challenges. The government's approach has faced criticism. Verdi union chief Frank Werneke has expressed concern over the proposed extension of working hours, fearing it may pressure employees unduly. He, however, supports Merz's move towards stronger collective bargaining agreements.
AfD leader Alice Weidel has criticized the coalition's migration policies as insufficient, calling for stronger border measures and a crackdown on illegal immigration. She also questioned the coalition's ability to fulfill its electoral promises.
