Escalating Sanctions Amid Stalled Peace Talks with Russia

In recent developments, the international community, led by the European Union and the United Kingdom, has intensified sanctions against Russia in response to its ongoing military aggression in Ukraine. These measures come in the wake of a failed diplomatic phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which did not yield any significant concessions from Moscow.

The new sanctions target various facets of Russia's economy and military infrastructure. They aim to curb Russia's energy exports and weaken its financial institutions that are seen as pivotal in funding the invasion. Notably, the EU has introduced its 17th sanctions package, focusing on penalizing Russia's so-called "shadow fleet," which is instrumental in circumventing the oil embargo.
