Concerns Over Acrylamide in Butter Cookies
A recent examination by Öko-Test of 19 butter cookie brands raised alarming concerns about food safety. Several organic options were found to contain elevated levels of acrylamide, a substance linked to cancer risk.
While both organic and conventional cookies had winners, one organic cookie was disqualified due to its high acrylamide content. Additionally, contamination with pesticides was noted in some conventional brands.
Notably, classic cookies like Leibniz Original were criticized for containing phosphates and artificial flavors. Out of the products tested, eight received the highest rating, while others struggled with health concerns.
This study highlights the need for consumers to be vigilant about the potential hazards in seemingly innocent snacks like butter cookies.
