JUPITER: Europe's Fastest Supercomputer
Nvidia's Grace Hopper platform has elevated JUPITER, the supercomputer at Forschungszentrum Jülich, to become the fastest in Europe. With a performance capacity of 793.4 petaflops, JUPITER is nearly 18 times faster than its predecessor, JUWELS. Though it narrowly misses the exascale mark, it stands out with its substantial AI capabilities, exceeding 70 AI-exaflops.
Expected to be fully operational by July 2025, JUPITER will facilitate advanced simulations and training for large AI models. The supercomputer promises significant strides in high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence, offering over twice the speedup compared to Europe’s next-fastest system. It is set to redefine computational capabilities in the region.
JUPITER's influence extends beyond speed, contributing to advancements in fields like climate research and weather forecasting. As the fourth fastest supercomputer globally, it underscores Germany's commitment to maintaining a leading position in supercomputer technology. Collaborations with Nvidia and HPE further enhance its potential, while the development of a new supercomputer, 'Blue Lion,' signifies ongoing innovation in the field.
