New EU Energy Label for Smartphones and Tablets

Beginning Friday, smartphones and tablets will feature a new EU energy label that assesses energy efficiency, battery longevity, and durability against drops. This initiative mandates manufacturers to supply essential spare parts within five to ten working days.

The regulation aims to empower consumers to make informed purchasing decisions while promoting sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. A similar label for laptops is anticipated to be introduced by 2028. By encouraging the design of robust devices with longer-lasting batteries and extended software updates, the EU hopes to foster a market for more sustainable technology.
