With a looming July 9 deadline, European officials are urging for a timely agreement to prevent further escalation.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron have both emphasized the need for a rapid conclusion to the talks, although Macron cautions against an agreement at any cost. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has expressed the bloc's readiness to negotiate while simultaneously preparing for the possibility of unsatisfactory outcomes.
