Dobrindt Proposes 'Cyber Dome' During Historic Visit to Israel

Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt recently visited Israel, marking a significant diplomatic engagement as he became the first international state guest since the onset of the conflict involving Iran. Dobrindt emphasized the importance of on-site discussions as an integral part of supporting Israel. He highlighted the need to integrate military and civil defense strategies, particularly in the realms of cyber defense and population protection, where he noted Israel's advancements.

Dobrindt called for the establishment of a 'Cyber Dome' in Germany, analogous to Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system. He underscored the necessity of a robust digital shield to safeguard against espionage and protect critical infrastructure. During his visit, he interacted with families of hostages and held discussions with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, focusing on security collaboration, disaster response, and the ongoing fight against anti-Semitism.

The Minister expressed strong support for Israel's military actions against Iran, characterizing the Iranian nuclear program as a looming threat not only to Israel but also to Europe and the broader region. He reiterated Germany's commitment to ensuring Israel's right to exist in the face of these dangers. Dobrindt's agenda includes a five-point plan to enhance German-Israeli cooperation in cybersecurity, which encompasses the creation of a center for joint cyber research and increased collaboration among intelligence and security agencies.
