Macron Calls for Renewed Franco-British Alliance Amid Global Challenges

During his state visit to the UK, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the importance of renewing the longstanding Franco-British alliance to tackle global challenges. Addressing the British Parliament, Macron highlighted the shared responsibility of both nations as permanent members of the UN Security Council to uphold the post-war international order. He stressed cooperation in areas such as military collaboration and international security, particularly in support of Ukraine against Russian aggression. Macron also called for a ceasefire in Gaza.

In discussions with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, migration across the English Channel was a key issue. Both leaders acknowledged the need for joint solutions, although disagreements persist, including the UK’s proposal of a 'one-in, one-out' asylum seeker arrangement, which France rejected. Despite these challenges, the visit marked a significant step in reinforcing bilateral defense and security partnerships between the two nuclear powers.
