White Sage Fire Forces Evacuations Near Grand Canyon's North Rim

A significant wildfire is currently raging near the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, prompting the evacuation of approximately 500 visitors and residents from the North Rim area. The fire, known as the White Sage Fire, was ignited by a lightning strike and has already consumed around 3,500 hectares of land.

Despite the efforts of firefighting teams, the blaze remains completely uncontrolled, exacerbated by ongoing drought conditions and strong winds. The authorities have closed the North Rim to visitors and strongly advised against hiking in the canyon, citing hazards posed by extreme heat and smoke.

The nearby settlement of Jacob Lake, which serves as an access point to the North Rim, is also under threat from the advancing flames. The Grand Canyon, celebrated as one of the world’s natural wonders, draws millions of visitors each year, with the North Rim being less frequented than its southern counterpart.

The situation remains dynamic and concerning as firefighters continue to battle the elements and the raging inferno.
