Zelenskyy Implements Lie Detector Tests to Combat Corruption Amid War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is intensifying his diplomatic efforts to reassure allies and address internal challenges as the war with Russia continues. A significant part of his strategy involves strengthening anti-corruption measures, a key concern for Ukraine and its European partners. Zelenskyy recently engaged in discussions with German Chancellor Merz and UK Prime Minister Starmer to highlight Ukraine's reforms and the importance of independent anti-corruption institutions.

One of Zelenskyy's notable initiatives is the introduction of regular lie detector tests for state officials, particularly those with access to state secrets. This measure aims to eliminate Russian influence within Ukraine's institutions. The new legislation seeks to restore the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), which had faced criticism for being under presidential control.

Zelenskyy has invited international experts, including those from Germany, the UK, and the EU, to review the proposed legislation. The move comes amid protests against previous amendments that threatened the independence of these agencies. Transparency International continues to rank Ukraine as one of Europe's most corrupt countries, underscoring the urgency of these reforms.

Parallel to these efforts, Zelenskyy is also addressing ongoing Russian attacks, which have escalated tensions in the region. Discussions are underway between Ukrainian and Russian negotiators regarding a possible direct meeting between Zelenskyy and Russian President Putin, although a ceasefire remains elusive. In response, the EU and the US are providing military and diplomatic support, while urging international players like China to influence Russia towards peace.
