Germany and Netherlands Secure €3.4 Billion for 222 Advanced Combat Vehicles

Germany and the Netherlands have partnered with Rheinmetall to procure 222 Schakal infantry fighting vehicles in a substantial deal worth approximately €3.4 billion. The contract is comprehensive, encompassing logistics, spare parts, and options for advanced systems like anti-tank protection and drone defense capabilities. Germany is set to receive 150 of these state-of-the-art vehicles, while the Netherlands will acquire 72, with the possibility of ordering up to 248 additional units in the future.

The Schakal, a versatile Boxer-based fighting vehicle, is equipped with the advanced turret and 30mm main gun from the Puma light tank, enhancing its combat capabilities. This procurement is considered a strategic move amidst the ongoing geopolitical tensions in Europe, particularly in light of the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing both countries' commitment to bolstering their military readiness.

Rheinmetall, collaborating with KNDS, aims to fulfill the majority of the work under this contract, with production primarily taking place in German facilities, such as Unterlüß and Kassel. This major order not only strengthens the defense capabilities of the German and Dutch armed forces but also significantly boosts the defense industry in the region, as reflected in Rheinmetall's rising stock value following the announcement.
