Ukraine repels massive Russian drone attack
Ukraine successfully repelled a large-scale drone attack launched by Russia, shooting down 89 drones and 1 missile. The attack targeted Kyiv and was the most severe in months.
Despite some damage to buildings, there were no casualties reported. In response, Ukraine struck a Russian weapons and equipment storage facility in the Kursk region.
Russia has also begun the third stage of drills to practice deploying tactical nuclear weapons. Additionally, President Vladimir Putin has doubled the special payment for combat deployment, offering a one-time payment of 400,000 rubles for anyone who signs a contract between August 1 and December 31. The increase aims to recruit more soldiers for Russia's war against Ukraine, as financial incentives have been the primary method of recruitment since the controversial mobilization of reservists in 2022. The use of drones in the conflict continues to escalate, with both sides reporting the destruction of drones.
Ukraine accuses Russia of deliberately targeting civilians, while Russia claims to be targeting military and energy facilities. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with both sides engaging in aggressive tactics and seeking to bolster their forces.
