Brandenburg Pushes for Tougher Asylum Policy After Solingen
Brandenburg's Prime Minister Woidke and municipalities are calling for stricter deportation policies for foreign criminals; they want to establish departure centers and suspend the Dublin Regulation. Integration Minister Nonnemacher did not attend the conference.
The NRW refugee ministry cites omissions by local authorities and lack of flight options as reasons for delayed deportations. In Hessen, Innenminister Poseck is visiting an Abschiebehaftanstalt and pushing for a new 'migration policy' that includes expanding safe countries of origin and reevaluating Syria and Afghanistan.
The facility has sufficient capacity and also accepts deportees from other states. The Innenminister has pledged to add 5 more positions at the Abschiebegefängnis in Darmstadt, which is near Frankfurt Airport.
Asylum lawyer Michael Brenner explains that debates after the Solingen attack are not productive as individual acts cannot be prevented. He warns of the negative consequences of going into hiding and emphasizes that lawyers represent their clients' interests.
The article also discusses the asylum policies of other European countries.
