Wagenknecht's Foreign Policy Demands for Coalitions
BSW leader Sahra Wagenknecht has once again made demands for a change in foreign policy a condition for government participation of her party in Thuringia and Saxony. Wagenknecht emphasized the importance of a return to a policy of détente and diplomacy instead of increasing militarization.
Following the state elections in Saxony and Thuringia, coalitions without the AfD can only be formed with the BSW. The party demands a rejection of US missiles in Germany and wants the government to take a clear stance on this issue.
Brandenburg's Prime Minister, Dietmar Woidke, criticized Wagenknecht for representing the Kremlin's narrative in the Russian aggression in Ukraine, while he advocates for supporting Ukraine to prevent a refugee crisis and ensure European security. The BSW has established state associations in North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony-Anhalt and aims to expand its 15% result in the state elections.
The party also voices concerns about the shrinking space for dissenting opinions in Germany.
