Germany's Migration Stance Fuels EU Debates

Germany is currently at the center of a heated debate on migration policies within the European Union. The country plans to return asylum seekers to the first-line EU countries as per the Dublin III Regulation.

This move has met with criticism, particularly from Greece, which is pushing the issue to the EU summit. Greek officials argue that first-entry countries should not bear the majority of the burden, with Prime Minister Mitsotakis defending the Evros border and former minister Mitarakis accusing Germany of hypocrisy.

The number of refugees in Germany has reached a record high, with 3.5 million people seeking refuge, a third of whom are from Ukraine. This influx has led to a complex mix of political, social, and economic challenges, prompting calls for reforms and stricter controls.
