Metalworkers in Bavaria Stage Strikes Amid Wage Negotiations

In Bavaria, thousands of metalworkers have been called to participate in warning strikes, significantly heightening the pressure on upcoming collective bargaining discussions. The IG Metall union, representing 3.9 million employees, is orchestrating these strikes as part of their demand for a 7% wage increase, aimed at bolstering purchasing power and stimulating economic growth. Key protests are scheduled at prominent locations such as BMW, MAN Truck & Bus, and MTU in Munich.

Negotiations between employers and IG Metall are set to take place in Hamburg, where both parties hope to reach a pilot agreement. Despite the ongoing controversies surrounding the wage increase, there remains a sense of optimism from both sides. The situation has resulted in statewide work stoppages across 117 companies in Bavaria.

The strikes coincide with separate industrial actions in the money and value transport sector led by the Verdi union.
