Germany Braces for Early Winter as Snow and Storms Hit

Germany is experiencing an early taste of winter, with low-pressure system 'Quiteria' ushering in cold, windy conditions. The snow line has dropped to around 400 meters, with up to 10 cm of fresh snow reported in mountainous regions. Some areas are already witnessing their first snowfalls of the season. Strong storm gusts are affecting the west and southwest, with hurricane-force winds recorded at some peaks. Continuous rain is impacting the Black Forest and central uplands, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).

Northern Germany is also facing snow showers and potential icy conditions, with temperatures hovering around freezing. Storm and hurricane-force winds have disrupted traffic and closed cemeteries, while train services are experiencing delays. In the Alps, snowfall is expected to reach up to 30 cm. The central and southern regions are bracing for stormy weather, with gusts up to 85 km/h. Coastal areas may experience cold air thunderstorms, with frost and ice anticipated overnight.

Berlin, Brandenburg, and surrounding areas are forecast to receive sleet and face icy roads, with temperatures between -1 and 4 degrees. The adverse weather is projected to persist, marking a chilly start to the season across Germany.
