Seoul's Historic November Snowstorm Causes Chaos

Seoul has been hit by the most severe November snowstorm in over a century, according to South Korean weather authorities. The city received up to 26 cm of snow, surpassing the previous record set in 1972. This unexpected snowfall led to significant disruption across the region, affecting transportation, infrastructure, and daily life.

The heavy snow resulted in tragic consequences, with at least three people losing their lives due to weather-related incidents. Among these was a fatal accident caused by the collapse of a snow-laden garage in Yangju. The storm also caused over 230 houses in the Gyeonggi area to suffer damage, highlighting the extensive impact of the severe weather.

Transportation systems were heavily affected, with more than 317 flights either canceled or delayed, and 90 ferries stranded in ports. Power outages left hundreds of households in the dark, and major roads were closed due to icy conditions and fallen trees, creating severe traffic congestion.

President Yoon Suk Yeol mobilized government resources to address the crisis, focusing on snow clearing and minimizing further damage. He urged residents to stay safe by avoiding unnecessary travel and outdoor activities.

Despite the chaos, the snowstorm is not over, as meteorologists have warned of continuing snowfall until Thursday. The unprecedented weather conditions serve as a stark reminder of nature's unpredictability and the importance of preparedness in the face of such events.
