CSU's Election Focus on Migration Policy

The Christian Social Union (CSU) is prioritizing migration policy as a central issue in the upcoming German federal election campaign. Alexander Dobrindt, the chairman of the CSU parliamentary group, criticized the current government's handling of migration, accusing them of failing to deliver meaningful solutions. He emphasized that migration policy would play a significant role in the election discourse.

During the party's winter retreat at Kloster Seeon, the CSU aims to launch an aggressive campaign phase. Dobrindt dismissed the government's claims of reduced asylum numbers, labeling them as misleading. He argued that asylum figures under the current coalition government have surged compared to previous years when the CDU led the administration. According to him, there is no easing of the migration issue.

Dobrindt also addressed the need for effective repatriation strategies, particularly for Syrians, if conditions in their home country stabilize. While advocating for strict policies to prevent migration into social systems, he acknowledged that individuals with stable employment in Germany could have pathways to remain.

The CSU is also contemplating future coalition possibilities. Dobrindt explicitly ruled out alliances with the Green Party, expressing a desire for a political shift that he believes cannot be achieved with them. Instead, he sees the Social Democrats (SPD) as a potential coalition partner, though the party prefers a smaller partner for a more significant political change.

The CSU is actively pushing its agenda against what it perceives as systemic issues in migration management, accusing the government of statistical manipulation. The party also plans to prevent misuse of financial aid systems for refugees and is advocating for technological restrictions to curb fraudulent practices. This hardline stance is key to their strategy as they gear up for the election battle.

Payment card for refugees: Dobrindt attacks the Greens - CSU rails against "left-wing circumvention industry"

The CSU wants to prevent the misuse of the payment card for asylum seekers. It criticizes a "left-wing circumvention industry" in which refugees exchange vouchers for cash. The party wants to technically prevent the purchase of vouchers using the payment card, impose penalties on exchange offices, and enable their prohibition. The introduction of the payment card is at different stages of progress in the federal states. CSU parliamentary group leader and top candidate Dobrindt accuses the Greens..

Jens Spahn on irregular migration: "Why are such types still here?"

In the election campaign, the Union sees a momentum for a strong, independent Union without the Greens. It wants to achieve its own majority and implement a real policy change. However, every vote for the AfD would increase the probability of a Red-Green government, which the Union wants to prevent.
