The Green Party in Germany is urging the prospective coalition of Union and SPD to commit to robust climate protection measures and to maintain the Germany ticket. Green Party leader Felix Banaszak emphasized the importance of reaching climate targets and expressed concerns about potential policy regressions. He criticized discussions on reviving energy partnerships with Russia, arguing it would be a mistake to revert to dependence on Russian gas after efforts to eliminate it.
Banaszak warned against forming a new "Moscow coalition" and noted the lack of clarity from CDU and SPD leaders on the issue. He also stressed the necessity of keeping the Germany ticket at the original price of 49 euros, warning that any ambiguity in the coalition agreement would send a negative signal to commuters.
Additionally, Banaszak called for gender parity in the future cabinet, referencing demands from women within the CDU/CSU. Meanwhile, environmental groups and the Greens criticized the Union and SPD's departure from the heating law, which they believe threatens climate goals in the building sector. These groups demand an effective and socially just heating transformation, urging stability for citizens, businesses, and municipalities.
Negotiators from CDU, CSU, and SPD aim to secure the Germany ticket but propose a price increase by 2027. While the ticket’s funding is secured only until the end of 2023, a continuation will require legislative changes. The SPD advocates for maintaining the affordable price, amidst ongoing discussions about its future.
