Climate activists continue to disrupt airports in protest
Climate activists have once again been arrested after staging protests at airports in London. Seven activists were taken into custody for blocking a passenger control area at Heathrow Airport, with minimal disruption to operations.
The environmental group Just Stop Oil reported that a total of 17 people were arrested, including seven at the airport and at least ten others outside. Similar protests have taken place at Gatwick Airport, Frankfurt am Main, Cologne/Bonn, and Leipzig/Halle, where activists glued themselves to the runway, halting freight operations for three hours.
The group is demanding an end to oil and gas extraction and has gained attention through controversial protest actions in recent years. This latest wave of protests comes after two members of the group were arrested for spray-painting walls at the departure hall of Heathrow Airport.
The Last Generation group has also targeted German airports, including Frankfurt am Main and Cologne/Bonn. These demonstrations are part of a wider movement calling for urgent action on climate change and a transition away from fossil fuels.
